NSS 7 days Residential Camp - 2019



Period: From 21.01.2019 To 27.01.2019

Venue: Dongari Pada, Bhonar Pada, Brahman Pada, Kosbad, Dahanu.

Total Participants: 100 NSS Volunteers (SJCEM, MMS, SJIPR, SJCHS)



St. John Technical and Educational Campus (SJTEC) National Service Scheme (NSS) organized a 7-day Residential Camp from 21st to 27th January 2019 at Dongari Pada, Bhonar Pada, Brahman Pada, of Kosbad and Dahanu areas. There were 100 students from St. John Technical Campus - selected from the NSS units of Engineering, MMS, Pharmacy and Humanities Institutes to set out for the 7-days camp in order to serve the society as a team and to make a difference in traditional and conservative thinking of residing rural community


The volunteers were instructed, guided & accompanied by Mr. Sachin Urade, NSS Co-ordinator St. John Technical Campus, Ms. Shraddha More and Mr. Dhiraj Darunde (NSS Additional Programme officers, St. John College of Engineering and Management, Mr. Amol Gholap, NSS Programme Officer of St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research and Mr. Maqsood Memon NSS Programme Officer of St. John College of Humanities and Sciences.


The camp was inaugurated by the Chief guest Dr. Suhas Darvekar (Founder Sangeeta Darvekar Charitable Trust, Mumbai) with a brain storming session on “Importance of social service in Education Sector” and the guest of honor Mr. Manohar Waghela (Founder, Transforming Lives Foundation, Mumbai) addressed the volunteers on the topic on “Human Trafficking”. After that an ice breaking session was conducted in which all students were divided into groups. Later on, various tasks were assigned to each group on rotation basis for the seven days camp.


This was followed by the day began at 5:30 am followed by a hill-jog at 6.00 a.m and yoga / exercise. After the breakfast volunteers activities were scheduled and the students enthusiastically participated in all the activities:


1) Inaugural session by Dr. Suhas Darvekar and Mr. Manohar Waghela

2) Workshop on "Superstitions and its Misconceptions" conducted by Mr. Anna Kadlaskar (BARC Scientific Officer)

3) Road construction and levelling work at Dongari Pada village.

4) Disaster Management Training Session by Mr. Nilesh Vaze ( Disaster Management Cell, Palghar)

5. Road construction work at Naralipada.

6. Awareness on Cyber Security, Crime against women and Motor vehicle Act, by Mr. Sambhaji Yadav (Assistant Police Inspector)

7. Cleanliness Drive in the adopted area

8. Painting the Zilla Parishad Primary School, at Dongaripada

9. Health and Hygiene Awareness in Zilla Parishad school

10. Anti Plastic Campaign – Clothes Bags Distribution

11. About 1500 Dresses / Clothes distribution in the adopted area in association with Palghar cloth Bank

12. Mock Stock Financial Literacy session by Mr. Maqsood Memon

13. Motivational Talk on 21 Ideas to bring change in your thought process a month

14. Visit to Indian Agricultural Research Centre (Techniques of Farming) at Kosbad

15. Republic Day Celebration ( Skits performed on Dowry , Health and Hygiene and Child Labour) at Rampur Grampanchayat

16. Vanrai Bandhara ( Check Dam) Construction at Naralipada

17. Cultural activities : Poster Competition, Ad Mad Show, Singing & Dance, Treasure Hunt, Sports, Yoga, Running , Physical Exercise and NSS song recitation


Every NSS Volunteer contributed whole - heartedly for the social cause of the camp i.e. to create awareness amongst the village folks on how to improve / Change their standard of living and their thought process. Each and every event had a new challenge and a new excitement. The NSS volunteers made sure that they gave their best throughout the day. Similarly, cultural events added flavour to the camp activities which enhanced confidence, team work and humility among the volunteers and gave them opportunities to showcase their hidden talents and explore new innovative ideas.


Every activity began and ended with "NSS clap which led its emphasis on unity, fraternity and equality.

St. John Technical & Educational Campus nurtures the ideology of unity and commitment towards the Society and the Nation . It is committed to take up initiative of being the change and motivating all the NSS Volunteers towards Social Awareness and outreach which is essential today for their overall development including moral values and thereby development of the Society.
